Doctor of Medicine Program (M.D.)
The Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program at the Medical University of the Americas is recognized by the New York State Department of Education/ State Board of Medicine and the World Health Organization and listed in the latest World Directory of Medical Schools. The Medical University is accredited by the Department of Education of St. Christopher-Nevis and graduates are eligible for licensure. The E.C.F.M.G. (Educational Commission on Foreign Medical Graduates) has declared that students from the Medical University of the Americas are eligible to take the U.S.M.L.E. (United States Medical Licensure Exam), which is required for residency and medical licensure in the United States.

Integrity in Education is the hallmark by which the Medical University of the Americas operates. The administration and faculty at the Medical University recognize that there are no short cuts in medicine. Students admitted to this program should expect nothing less than to be challenged by a very rigorous medical curriculum that will prepare them for medical practice in the 21st century.

The curriculum required to complete the Doctor of Medicine degree at the Medical University consists of the following:
a. Five semesters of basic medical science courses taken in residence on Nevis.
b. Five semesters (72 weeks) of clinical rotations completed at hospitals that have an approved teaching affiliation with the Medical University of the Americas.
The entire M.D. program may be completed in a 40-month period, if all coursework is taken consecutively. Specific graduation requirements are described in another section. Click here to view the Basic Sciences curriculum.
