The administration and faculty at Medical University of the Americas bring extensive experience and insight to the challenge of medical education.
All MUA faculty have an advanced medical and/or doctoral degree (MD, MBBS, PhD) with postgraduate training in a medical or academic specialty, as well as demonstrated experience in teaching and/or research. We also look for something more in our faculty: a strong desire to work closely with the students they teach.
Although it is common for schools to run large classes in huge lecture halls, this offers little opportunity for the type of one-on-one instruction MUA feels is essential to a great education.
MUA has a 3:1 student-to-faculty ratio in the Gateway program and a 7:1 student-to-faculty ratio in the Basic Science program. These figures ensure students receive one-on-one teaching from professors, so everyone gets the chance to be heard. Many of our faculty members chose MUA specifically because we give them the opportunity to engage with students in a more effective way.
