Why Transfer to MUA?
Individualized Support
Our 5:1 student-to-faculty ratio in the 10-semester MD program helps ensure that every student is treated like more than just a number. At MUA, you’ll build meaningful connections with faculty who are genuinely invested in your success – both in and out of the classroom.
Internationally Accredited
The MUA MD program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM), which is recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME). The ACCM’s standards have been deemed comparable to the standards used to accredit medical schools in the United States by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA).
Our school also holds key U.S. state approvals – it is approved by the New York State Education Department, recognized by the Medical Board of California and licensed by the Florida Department of Education. These states mandate regular institutional reviews and approvals prior to granting access to clerkship opportunities in their respective states, and other states rely on these approvals for the purposes of licensure.
MUA Doctors of Medicine go on to practice in the U.S., Canada and internationally!
Residency Placement Success
MUA graduates have been placed in a broad range of residency programs across the U.S. and Canada, from family medicine to neurology to surgery.
With extensive support from our dedicated faculty and Student Support Services team, you’ll be fully prepared to achieve success while pursuing your desired specialty program.
Excitingly, recent graduates have earned a 94% Three-Year Residency Placement Rate.*
*94% Three-Year Residency Placement Rate is the percent of students attaining a residency position out of all graduates or expected graduates in 2022-2023, 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 who were active applicants in the NRMP match or attained a residency outside the NRMP match.
Accessible Costs and Financial Support
At MUA, we understand that the world needs more doctors, which is why we strive to reduce financial barriers for aspiring medical students from around the world.
Our MD program features tuition and fees that make it one of the most accessible among the Caribbean medical schools approved for U.S. Title IV federal financial aid participation. Beneficially, Canadian citizens are eligible to pay tuition and administrative fees in Canadian dollars. All other students pay in USD.
Additionally, we also offer financial support via grants and scholarships, and students from the U.S. and Canada are eligible to apply for government financial aid.
A Community That Cares
The idea of joining a new medical school can seem daunting at first, but at MUA, you’ll find a welcoming, tight-knit community of students and faculty who strive to enrich your journey. From your first day on our Basic Science campus on the safe and beautiful island of Nevis, you’ll feel seen, heard and supported.
After Basic Science, successful MD program students undertake Clinical Medicine rotations in the U.S. (core and electives) and Canada (select electives). During this time, we continue to support and guide our students to help ensure that they can achieve their desired outcomes.
Credit Transfer Opportunities
We work closely with students from accredited medical schools to evaluate and transfer eligible credits so that you don’t have to start from scratch.
Our admissions team will walk you through every step, and do everything possible to make your transition as smooth as possible.

Yes, it is possible to gain acceptance at one medical school and then receive transfer admission to another medical school. Medical University of the Americas does accept eligible transfer students who have attended another accredited medical school. Please note, individual medical school policies will vary.
At MUA, we work closely with eligible transfer students from accredited medical schools to transfer credits, so that they do not need to completely start over in our 4-year MD program.
MUA students in the MD program live on the beautiful and safe Caribbean island of Nevis during their Basic Science studies (five semesters over two years). Nevis is a wonderful learning environment, providing peace and quiet for when it’s time to focus, and engaging outdoor activities, such as tropical hiking and beach days, for when it’s time to relax.
MUA Doctor of Medicine program students undertake five semesters (two years) of Clinical Medicine rotations in the United States (core and electives) and Canada (select electives).
